CHC have announced a partnership with the Master Builders Association of the ACT for the annual Excellence in Building Awards.
As a previous award winner at this event, CHC is thrilled to be able to play a role in shaping Canberra’s housing landscape. The partnership with MBA will drive more attainable and diverse housing in Canberra.
“As a not-for-profit developer, we strive to be at the forefront of housing solutions. Our mission is to continue to deliver more housing opportunities. We have a significant plan to provide more housing to the Canberra community and see our involvement in the awards as an opportunity to be more active in the industry,” says CEO of CHC, Kim Sinclair.
“We build homes for the community. What we deliver is based upon what is relevant and appropriate for Canberrans. Whether it’s homes for first-time buyers, downsizers or a growing family, what’s important to us is that everyone has the opportunity to know the feeling of a home.”
“While we develop homes for both rent and sale, a major focus for us is the provision of rental accommodation for those on low to moderate incomes, ageing Canberrans and people with disability,” says Sinclair.
The Excellence in Building Awards will be held on Friday 30 June 2017 at the National Convention Centre. Some of the award categories include; best renovation, best affordable housing design, best subcontractor, best apprentice, best work health and safety practice and most sustainable construction. We are excited to announce that we have lodged a development application to redevelop the Downer Primary School site. Our plan is to not only build a range of housing solutions that are needed in the community but also to revitalise the local shops.
The project will see 37 townhouses, 123 apartments, a number of dwellings for independent senior living and 10 specialist disability apartments built. The overall aim is to provide relevant, functional and attainable homes for Canberrans, as well as a precinct that will complement the Inner North landscape. We are pleased to offer a product mix that provides options for members of the community that are often overlooked by the housing market, such as those living with a disability and seniors who wish to live self-sufficiently.
We work closely with all sectors of the community to understand what type of housing stock is needed, and we quickly identified that independent living units were under-represented sector. This development will provide apartments close to the city for young professionals, townhouses for downsizers and young families and purpose-built dwellings to promote independent seniors living.
As a community developer, our focus is on providing affordable and attainable residences for rent. We do this by undertaking a range of projects, some of which are sold to enable CHC to independently and sustainably increase our rental portfolio.
We are truly invested in the local community and want to create a space that new and current residents will enjoy, We’ve worked hard to ensure that the new precinct is well integrated with the existing suburb. We have included a number of entry points and laneways and the masterplan has been designed with the intention of complimenting the surrounding area. Working alongside the local community, we will create a new and vibrant precinct in North Canberra, while preserving and honouring an important part of the suburb’s history.
We would like to extend our thanks to the Downer Community Association for their ongoing support and commitment to working with us during the community consultation process for this project.
